Situated along Hilo bay, adjacent to the historic downtown district, the relaxed charm of this beautifully manicured 18 hole object course is very deceptive.
The presences of "Kamehameha The Great" and "Mauna Kea" loom overhead as you wander through many wide open fairways to strategically placed pins. Swirling winds constantly test you as you travel along and over the small inland channel, onto an island, behind a high-rise, and then back towards the bay.
Water comes into play on 13 of 18 holes, thick treelined holes are present, and at times the winds can be strong and quite deceptive. (Don't get eaten by the "Grrreen Monster"!) Holes 1 and 18 play somewhat tough, so getting through this section unscathed during a round is rare, which creates a tough opening and closing for the top card in tourney play.
At PDGA sanctioned events, the Recreational and Amatuer divisions play for prizes, while the Pros play for a ca$h purse, with more than 100% payout going to ALL DIVISIONS!
The awesome combination of stunning manicured surroundings and a challenging layout make this an absolutely beautiful course to play and experience for all.
Casual mini events are held throughout the year. Weekend schedule rotates with other courses, so please make contact with Big Island clubs and organizations to confirm location of a particular weekend.
SORRY, camping at Wailoa is NOT permitted.
